On to the Speaker Board....
When initially built, an open-weave fiber mat was glued to the panel, then glue and gold flocking of some sort was sprayed onto the mat. For this restoration, a gold lamay fabric was selected, but that comes later.
Here a 6-inch drywall spackling tool was used to scrape away the flocking as seen in the bottom two-thirds of the panel. However, it's important that the fiber mat be kept, cleaned and reused, as will be explained later.
Sandpaper & Wire Wheel Needed...
Ready to go. In a previous slide it was mentioned that the original fiber speaker cloth be saved and reused. Here's why: Without that mat the very thin gold lamay fabric will cling to the speaker panel's holes, shown here, in such a way to show each one in shadow when the color wheel lights up the panel from below. Not the effect you'll want after going to all the trouble to rebuild the panel and reassemble the juke!
